New Directions for Domains, Domainers, and Domaining

Anyone who has ever played a sport will tell you that the only way to score is to get into the game.
You not going to kick that winning goal, hit the winning shot, or run the winning touchdown if you are riding the pines – sitting on the bench.
Domains rules are the same as sports.
Get into the game.
How anyone can sit and wait for traffic to come to them, offers to flow in, the end user to come knocking is beyond me.
Yes, there are exceptions to the rule IF you have an exceptional name.
Today there are so many tools available to help you pump up your own physical presence where you can not be ignored. You can make your self stand out and outstanding.
That is what I am seeing in today’s social networking sites.
In two days on one of my Twitter accounts I was able to capture the attention of two very prestigious businesses. How? I was there to assist and respond to the call for help.
One was a doctor (pharmacist) and the other a prestigious major universities medical center.
Both were wanting help with their websites and how to add video and other add ons.
I am not a programmer or tech head so I am no help to them at all.
What I was able to do was put them in contact with people that are capable of doing this. I was able to use the knowledge of certain skills necessary and match them up with the right people. These people are not only domainers but skilled developers, programmers, and webmasters.
Having marketable skills along with domaining is a huge plus.
I come from an extensive advertising and medical background. I am here learning new skills as I bang these words out – I am learning WordPress for the sake of using this tool and I am learning the Twitterverse protocols to communicate in real time across a vast plethera of my knowledge in various feeds.
The contacts I have made on the forums are valuable. Thus will be the contacts made on Twitter and other social media sites. Networking is paramount to success and building relationships.
If those that I recommended were indeed contacted by the entity requesting help then they have made a new contacts and can use their skills to make and keep new clients.
I have improved my visibility and my worth (value) to these Twitter networks. I hope to be that “go to guy” who can make referrals and put them in contact with some one who can render assistance. This is what I get out of the referral – I am getting no referral fees or commissions. Once I made that referral my job was done.
No one wanted a domain name. No one wanted SEO advice. No one asked about traffic, stats, age. They just needed help or advice on how to do something or can someone do it for them.
If you don’t have skills to offer you are doing yourself a terrible dis-service. Especially in today’s economy. Learn a new skill that you can market along with your domains. Learn WordPress, learn Joomla. The idea of programming frighten you? Then study about search engine marketing or offer up your translation skills as in interpreter. Be a content writter who has something relevant to say.
Be your own coach.
Put yourself in the game.

Here’s wishing Elliot Silver good furtune as Top Notch Domains enters into the consultancy arena.
Elliot is one of the most level headed bloggers around. He could blog about selling ice in the Artic Circle, if that was his calling.
More and more domains are being treated as assets – just look at all the court cases or even the auctioning of Toys.com. The first auction was to dispose of assets.
Elliot is an asset to domaining and, quite frankly, I like his style. Seriously, I like his style of writting (I still think he is a closet English Major) and his even-toned approach and respect of other opinions.
Elliot, we’ll be looking for great things from you.

That will perhaps be what people are asking when they read the news that mTLD (better known as dot Mobi) has released the first 2 Character domain – 53.mobi.
Love it or hate it, .mobi appears to be gaining in popularity with banks seemingly the early adoptors.
Today, it is all about value-added service. And every one wants more out of their institutions and brands. And giving the consumer more keeps your customers happy and, hopefully, loyal.

Truce.com is on TDNAM expiring auctions.

Okay, go ahead and sneakapeek.
I am in the process of learning wordpress so bear (bare?) with me.
I am struggling a little but I will get the hang of it.
This will all be worthwhile and fun when done.
After all, let’s inject a little fun and humor back into domaining.
